“Life is what happens when your being afraid.” – Stretch
Hello again my fellow Dream Chasers. It has been over a month since my last post. Proof that I too am subject to, and suffer, time to time, from procrastination. As well as my priorities being boggled, and otherwise askew….. Lets tackle the first one . The fine art of procrastination. Why the hell do we wait to take steps toward what we want. OK I’ll admit that not all that we procrastinate on has any thing to do with what we want . Many of you that have “jobs” procrastinate on tasks that you despise doing for the sake of keeping your meager existence ,all the while lining some one else’s pockets. I get it ,but doesn’t that kind of boil down to you cow-towing to a fear of unnecessary discomfort….. if you think about it,you will find that all procrastination can be taken to a lowest common denominator of one of two things : Fear and Laziness.
So what the hell are we Afraid of?
I don’t quite understand why we are so afraid. Is it purely social conditioning? Are we that afraid of change, the fear of the unknown?
Let me challenge you, that the next time you find yourself putting something off you ask yourself these questions:
- How important is this task? Do I need to be doing it at all?
- Why am I putting it off?
- Is the end result worth the limited discomfort I might feel. (9/10 it is)
Hesitation- Again this to is based on a fear of the unknown. I don’t know what the out come will be so I’m not sure if I want to take the action. this “short term” procrastinate can also be attributed to a lack of planing and ,or evaluation of a given situation. In short -you get overwhelmed.
The easy answer , is to make a proper evaluation of the situation your first Action step.
Jeff Olson wrote a book called “The Slight Edge”
And in it he talks about a tactic he refers to as “Ready , Fire , Aim.”
Basically you dive in to your action steps ,evaluating and making adjustments as you go.
So what do we learn from all this?
I hope the underlying theme ,although unstated until now is ,that you need to be Aiming for your own Goals in life . If you have a home business,or some project that you’re passionate about out side of work ,work harder at that than you do your job. Learn to “Pull the Trigger” , Take Action , Execute.
Remember, if your not living your dying . Likewise, Inaction = Death.
As always I’d like to know what you think ,so feel free to share a comment and spam the site to friends.
Live your Dreams! Take a step or two towards them every day.
