Life can be an all out war, and there will always be battles to fight and Missions to accomplish. But unlike the battlefield, in our lives, we are responsible for drawing up our missions and getting them done, and there is seldom someone to tell us what we need to do.
Just like with basic marksmanship there is a method to the madness.
Step One:
Target Recognition
The first step is target recognition, you have to know what your shooting at! It could be an opportunity that pops up as unexpectedly as “Fast Freddy” ( you remember that small target at the 50 yrd. marker), or a deep seeded goal that you have yet to define and set. You have to know your target! Just as on the Battlefield ,you have to know whether you should be aiming at that particular target or not.
Step Two:
Target Selection
So you’ve tallied the opportunities, defined your goals ,and rejected the false targets….Now what ?! You prioritize your targets , you assess what target you need to take down first. Spray and pray does not work for anything but suppression (and we do not want to suppress our goals), you need to Focus on one target at a time and take aim. Just as in acquiring a sight picture, you will need to focus on little things that are in front of your target ( like the front sight post). Take careful aim of the selected target and breath…..
Step three:
Target Take Down
Now that you have figured out what your targets are and what to go after first, you have taken aim with a step by step focused plan…..
Now it is time to pull the trigger, and Take Action. Take your Shot!!!
The best laid plans go nowhere with out taking action, and even after you do, you need to be ready follow up take a second shot if you need to . You will have to make adjustments along the way. Make sure that you are learning from the shots you take (if you learn from them they are not wasted shots).
Do you have a Target you need help with?
